Committees are the heart of SAM’s work. They give members a chance to focus deeply on key areas of our mission and help shape the direction of the organization. Each committee creates space for thoughtful research, careful discussion, and strong recommendations that support the full board in making informed decisions.
One of the strengths of SAM is our open committee structure. Committees are not limited to board members. Any SAM member can join, contribute, and bring their lived experience to the table. This approach strengthens our community by ensuring that many voices guide our work.
Why Committees Matter
Committees allow members to use their skills, talents, and knowledge to support meaningful advocacy. Members collaborate to gather information, review data, explore alternatives, and understand every angle of an issue. Committees may also bring in experts when needed to deepen understanding and ensure well rounded recommendations.
This collective approach ensures that SAM decisions are not only informed but grounded in the real experiences of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Committees You Can Join
All SAM members are invited to serve on up to three committees:
● Public Policy Focuses on legislation, advocacy priorities, and policy issues that affect the disability community.
● Public Relations Supports outreach, communication, and public messaging that strengthens the visibility and impact of SAM.
● Membership Helps welcome new members, build community, and support a strong and engaged statewide network.
