The Membership Committee is the welcoming doorway into SAM. Its purpose is to build a strong, connected, and vibrant community of self advocates across Michigan. The committee focuses on recruiting new SAM members, including adults with disabilities and local self advocacy groups, and also identifies individuals who may be a good fit for the SAM Board of Directors.
What the Membership Committee Does
The Membership Committee helps new members feel welcomed and prepared to participate fully in SAM. Committee members assist with board member onboarding, introduction to SAM values, and the creation of materials that help new leaders understand their role. This work ensures that every person who joins feels supported, informed, and ready to contribute.
The committee plays an important role in strengthening our statewide network. By bringing in new voices and nurturing leadership, the Membership Committee helps build a community that reflects the diversity and strength of self advocates across Michigan.
