Unhidden
I’m a wheelchair user and artist born with cerebral palsy whose work explores identity, resilience, visibility, and the lived experience of disability. Disability has shaped both the way I experience the world and the way I see myself, and through this piece, I wanted to challenge the idea that disability is something to hide or overcome to have value.
The superhero reveal symbolizes reclaiming disability identity with pride instead of shame. Society often views disabled people through limitation, dependence, or pity, but this piece reframes disability as strength, resilience, and individuality.
For me, disability pride is about visibility, authenticity, and recognizing that our differences do not make us less powerful. They are part of the story, strength, and identity we carry every day.
“Unhidden” is a digital illustration that uses the imagery of a superhero reveal to symbolize disability pride, visibility, and self-acceptance. By placing the disability symbol at the center of the piece, it’s my hope that the artwork challenges stereotypes surrounding disability and reframes it as a source of strength, resilience, and identity rather than something to conceal.
