If someone was told their entire life that blue was actually red, how would they know that wasn’t accurate? How would they be able to tell that the colors they perceive didn’t match with the hues others saw?
The difficulty with having an invisible disability like AuDHD is that it can take time to realize the way you perceive the world doesn’t align with a neurotypical experience. Things may seem off. Not quite right. But you may attribute that to your lack of understanding, rather than a fundamental difference in how you navigate the world compared to those around you. It can cause delays in diagnosis and make explaining our experiences incredibly difficult. Because we can’t really tell what “colors” we have been seeing differently the entire time.
